Define paint-ready before the painter is booked

“Paint-ready” sounds precise until the plasterer, painter and owner each mean something different by it. One may expect joint finishing only, while another assumes sealing and all surface preparation are included. For paint-ready plaster finishes in Jindalee, the first task is agreeing the actual handover condition in writing.

Queensland Interior Linings can discuss the plaster finishing scope alongside the intended decorating work. That conversation should happen before the painter is booked, especially where a new paint sheen or changed lighting will make the surface more visually demanding.

Separate plaster work from paint preparation

List the tasks assigned to each trade. Joint finishing, sanding and removal of plastering dust should not be confused with the painter's specified sealing, undercoating and coating system. Ask the painter to confirm their own substrate preparation requirements rather than assuming a single phrase covers everything.

For example, a repaired wall may include old painted areas beside new compound. The painter needs to account for those different surfaces when planning preparation and coatings. Simply applying the same topcoat across both does not resolve every difference in absorption or texture.

Decide how the room will be viewed

Tell the plasterer if strong side lighting, a long window or wall-mounted lighting will illuminate the surface. Discuss the proposed paint sheen and the appropriate finish before work begins. A change from a low-sheen coating to a glossier finish can alter expectations even when the plaster scope has not changed.

Our plastering information can help start the discussion, but the room's actual conditions matter more than a generic promise of smoothness. Agree how any existing unevenness or retained texture will be handled and what is outside the scope.

Schedule by readiness, not optimism

Joint compounds must dry as required before sanding. Conditions, product choice and the amount of material applied affect readiness; a calendar booking cannot override them. Provide suitable ventilation consistent with product guidance rather than improvising aggressive heating to force a finish.

The complete manufacturer-specified finishing system should be followed, including compatible compounds and application requirements. If additional sheeting is involved, its fixing details also depend on the selected system, not a universal spacing rule. Leave room in the programme for inspection and small agreed corrections before decoration begins.

Keep dust and late changes under control

Contain the work area and use suitable extraction during sanding. Agree cleaning responsibilities so dust is not left to interfere with decorating or spread through occupied rooms. Protect finished flooring and keep other trades from using newly prepared walls as storage supports.

For a Jindalee renovation, have qualified electrical trades finish planned outlet relocations before final plaster preparation. If suspect older material needs disturbance, arrange asbestos assessment first. Opening a completed wall for an overlooked cable creates another finishing cycle and may delay the painter.

Review the handover together

Check the surface under the agreed viewing conditions and note any outstanding items before paint is applied. Keep that review separate from later impact damage or changes requested after completion. The wider residential plastering service may include repairs or junction work that should be reviewed at the same time.

When you request a quote from Queensland Interior Linings, include the paint specification if available, room photographs and the painter's proposed start date. A defined handover helps both trades plan realistic work rather than arguing over an undefined label.
