We cut out the ruined plasterboard and check that the timber battens are completely dry. Once the framing is sound, we screw in fresh board and trowel on three coats of compound for a flat, clean finish.

Yes. Older walls are rarely straight, so we pack out low studs and feather the joint compound wide. That blends the new plasterboard into the existing lining without leaving an obvious ridge.
