We check the joists and battens first. Movement cracks are scraped back, re-screwed, and taped with paper tape and base coat. If the ceiling has sagged off the timber, we re-batten the area and hang fresh plasterboard.
Can you blend plasterboard into existing horsehair plaster or VJ walls?
Yes. When joining plasterboard to old VJ boards or horsehair plaster, we pack out the studs to match the thicknesses and feather our stopping coats wide so the painter gets a flat surface.
